Boys Soccer: Warriors Shine Under Lights; Case and D-R tie

Seekonk 3, Rockland 0

The Warriors got their chance to showcase their talent under Friday night lights and didn’t disappoint the large crowd on a beautiful fall night. Seekonk won its non-league game against Rockland on senior night, 3-0.

“We played a great game with guys contributing all over the field,” said Seekonk head coach Matt McCartin. “When we play our game and dictate pace and play we are tough to beat.”

Seekonk dominated time of possession and had numerous scoring opportunities. Freshman Jake Silvestre cashed in on two of those chances. Silvestre’s first goal was on a pass from John Medeiros in the first half. Silvestre’s second goal was on a beautiful feed from Devon Bento.

“Jake has played real well for us,” said McCartin of his freshman goal scorer. “Last night was a great example of him just playing and having fun and not trying to do too much. He has earned the trust of the guys.”

Shawn Pichardo tacked on the third goal for the Warriors.

“We were solid defensively again and played unselfishly with our attack,” said McCartin. “We moved the ball beautifully and got real quality looks on their net.”

Luke Robitaille earned the shutout. Robitaille made a fantastic diving save at the end of the first half that could have flipped the momentum in Rockland’s favor.

“You can’t measure the importance of a save like that,” said McCartin. “How you dominate a team but let them right back in a game during the last minute of a game you spent the first 38 minutes taking them out of. We hope Luke having to make saves like that is few and far between, but we have all the confidence in the world he will make the saves if needed.”

The Warriors improved to 12-0-2 with the win.

“If we can maintain that level of play moving forward we are a very dangerous team,” said McCartin.

D-R tied the game up when Noah Munroe scored off an indirect kick from Will Taylor.

Case’s record is now 6-3-2. D-R is now 8-2-3.
