Football: Seekonk, Case Earn Big Wins; D-R falls short

Seekonk 54, Fairhaven 20. The Warriors scored early, often and in a variety of ways in their home opening win over Fairhaven.

The Blue Devils cut the deficit to one at 21-20, but the Warriors ran off 32 unanswered points to punctuate the victory.

After missing the week one loss versus Ashland, Terry Smith was under center and had a great night going 15-19 passing for 220 yards and four touchdowns.

Dynamic receiver Shane Smith (6 catches, 145 yards) scored three touchdowns on the night – two via reception and one by way of a punt return.

Seekonk’s tallest target Ryan Riordan hauled in two early touchdown passes in the win.

Brett Mancini (125 yards, two touchdowns) and Gage French (one TD) carried the load for the Warriors in the backfield.

The Warriors host Apponequet next Friday.

Case 40, Diman 8. The Cardinals ran wild over Diman on Friday night amassing over 400 yards from scrimmage on the ground.

Quarterback Devin Proulx led the rushing parade with 199 yards and two touchdowns (55 yards, 30).

Running back Chris Costa ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns (65, 40).

Full back Ty Couto added two touchdowns of his own on runs of 12-yards and 7-yards. Couto finished with 57 yards on the night.

Case opens South Coast Conference play at Bourne High next Friday.

New Bedford 25, Dighton-Rehoboth 17. The Falcons dropped their second straight game to start the season. D-R got on the board early on a Steve Silvia touchdown run and Dennis Monteiro punched another touchdown in before halftime.

Dylan Iodice hit a 30-yard field goal for the Falcons.

Drew LeBlanc led the ground attack for D-R with 81 yards on 10 carries.

D-R opens up South Coast Conference play next Friday at Somerset-Berkley.
