Captains: Allison Ainley (’18), Emily Hall (’18) and Erin Reilly (’18)
Last year’s record: 8-14
The D-R Falcons girls’ volleyball team is looking to improve on its 2016 eight-win campaign. Head coach Jill Saxon (12th season) will lean on returning varsity players for leadership.
“Both Erin Reilly and Allison Ainley are in their third year as varsity players (outside hitters) so I am hoping they will provide leadership on the court as returning players,” said Saxon. “Emily Hall is in her second year as our setter and junior Andria Braga is also in her second year as the libero.”
The goal for the Falcons is to earn at least a .500 record and make the state tournament in a very competitive South Coast Conference.
“I think we will be competitive this season, but it will be interesting to see how it works out with the new conference alignment,” said Saxon. “We hope to make tournament this year.”
The Falcons are on pace to make achieve its goal as they are currently 1-1 on the season.
D-R lost their first match of the season to perennial power Bourne, 3-0. Emily Hall had 10 assists and one ace. Erin Reilly had nine kills. Andria Braga and Allison Ainley both had six digs.
The Falcons bounced back yesterday with a win over Wareham (3-1) last night. Allison Ainley had 10 digs, two aces and seven kills. Emily Hall had 27 assists and one ace. Cassondra Almeida had five kills, five aces, and two blocks.
