D-R Football Looking to Soar Under New, but Familiar Leader

Captains: Steven Silvia (QB/S), Chris Wheaton (TE/LB), Brandon Benevides (DT/OT)

Returning Seniors: Dennis Monteiro (FB/CB), Drew LeBlanc (RB/LB), Dave Joachim (G/LB)

First year senior: Alec Hart (DE)

Junior Returning Varsity Players: Matt Moura (DE), Joe Carerra (RB/S), Mason Cadorette (OT/DT), Owen Arden (WR)

Last Season: 6-5, play-off win over previously unbeaten Old Rochester before losing to Holliston.

For the first time in a long time, somebody other than Dave Driscoll will be guiding the Dighton-Rehoboth Falcons football team. Fortunately for the players, they needed no introduction to first year head coach Dave Moura.

Moura is now the head coach after serving 14 years under Coach Driscoll in a variety of roles in the D-R program.

The early season objective for the Falcons is simple. “To get better every day,” said Moura. “We want to use every day as a stepping stone and continue to improve.”

With only a limited number of returning contributors, it is going to take constant improvement to compete with the titans in the South Coast Conference-large.

“Old Rochester is still going to be strong, Somerset is always competitive and New Bedford Voke is always athletic and has great numbers,” said Moura.

Coach Moura will implement some new wrinkles to D-R’s offensive and defensive schemes, but has kept the same offensive language and base 4-3 defense.

The Falcons will kick off the season on the road at familiar non-conference foe Lincoln-Sudbury on Friday night.

“L-S is big, strong and physical,” said Moura. “They can run it down your throat or spread it out.”

The Falcons first home game will come in week two when they host New Bedford.
